Novus was founded in 1949 by Erwin Muller in Lingen (Ems), Germany, initially as a stapler manufacturer; its 1953 fully-encased stapler design has sold more than six million units, and in 1998 the company introduced what it describes as the world's first flat-clinch desk stapler. Separately, Dahle was founded in 1930 by Wilhelm Dahle, originally producing milling cutters; Novus acquired the Dahle brand in 2002, and the two were merged into Novus Dahle GmbH in 2012. The combined company, which added its More Space System of monitor arms and workstation accessories in 2013, operates under the Erwin Muller Group (emco Group) holding company, still headquartered in Lingen.
