Company background
Ergotron was founded in 1982 by Harry Sweere in Eagan, Minnesota, where the company commercialized a constant-force lift mechanism that eliminated manual crank adjusters on monitor arms. It remains headquartered in Eagan and holds more than 200 patents, underpinning product lines such as WorkFit sit-stand workstations and CareFit healthcare carts. Ergotron is not independent: London-listed Melrose Industries acquired it in 2016 as part of its purchase of Nortek, then sold it to Houston-based private equity firm The Sterling Group for $650 million in cash in July 2022. At the time of that sale, Ergotron's business reported 2021 adjusted operating profit of £58 million.
