Company background
Sedus Stoll AG traces its roots to 1871, when Albert Stoll and Max Klock founded a chair factory in Waldshut, Baden-Württemberg; the business split into separate family enterprises in 1958, with the Sedus brand continuing under Christof Stoll KG. The company is headquartered in Dogern, Germany, with a second production site in Geseke. Since 1995 Sedus Stoll AG has been majority owned by two charitable foundations, the Stoll VITA Foundation and the Karl Broecker Foundation, an ownership structure intended to preserve its independence from outside investors. It sells through nine subsidiaries in Europe plus a Dubai office, reaching more than 70 countries via partner companies. In 1926, Albert Stoll II patented the "Federdreh," an early swivel-chair column mechanism.
