Nurus traces its roots to a carpentry workshop established in Ankara, Turkey, in 1927 by Nurettin Usta (Kunurkaya); it passed to his daughter Birten Gökyay and her husband, and later to a third generation of the Gökyay family, who built it into an international office furniture brand from the 1990s onward.
