Kimball International traces its founding to 1950, when Arnold F. Habig led a group of investors who reorganized a small Jasper, Indiana woodworking operation into The Jasper Corporation; the company adopted the Kimball International name in 1974, following its 1959 acquisition of the W.W. Kimball Company, once the world’s largest piano and organ manufacturer, a business it operated until ceasing piano production in 1996. Still headquartered in Jasper, Indiana, Kimball International became a wholly owned subsidiary of HNI Corporation (NYSE: HNI) on June 1, 2023, in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at approximately $485 million. At the time of the deal, Kimball International reported 2022 sales of $719 million across eight manufacturing locations.
