Edsbyn traces its origins to 1899, when Lars Fredrik Pettersson opened a carpentry workshop in Edsbyn, in Sweden’s Hälsingland region; his son Ivar Pettersson took over in 1928 and introduced Ford-style assembly-line production in the 1930s. The company, still headquartered in Edsbyn, operates within a Swedish corporate group headed by Edsbyn Senab AB and is not part of a larger international furniture holding. Between 1905 and 1984 Edsbyn manufactured wooden skis for the Swedish Armed Forces, and leftover ski-lamination material is credited with inspiring its Fanett spindle-back chair. In 1983 the Swedish Parliament was furnished with Edsbyn’s Combino series, now present, per the company, at more than 250,000 workplaces. Recent collections have been designed with Thomas Eriksson and Jens Fager.
