Company background
Boss Design was founded in 1983 in Dudley, West Midlands, England, by accountant Brian Murray, who started the company with an initial £100 investment alongside designer Hilary Birkbeck and craftsmen from WG Gallis, which later became part of the business. Its first product, the Delphi chair, remains in the collection today, and early clients included British Airways and Harrods. The company is headquartered on Boss Drive in Dudley, with a North American base in High Point, North Carolina, and has described operating across five continents through four production facilities in the UK, North America, the Middle East, and the Far East. In March 2025, Japanese manufacturer Okamura Corporation acquired 100% of Boss Design Limited’s shares, making it a wholly owned subsidiary.
